| Peggy was a lifelong Christian Scientist and in
1937 became secretary to the Christian Science teacher, John W. Doorly.
She remained his assistant until his passing in 1950. She continued with
her healing practice and gave talks and summer schools on the Bible and
other subjects seen in the light of the Science of Christian Science
until her passing. |

The articles in
THE BIBLE AS OUR LIFE by Peggy M. Brook
have been reprinted from a series in "Ideas
of Today". a periodical published by The
Foundational Book Company during the years 1951-1977. The purpose of
"Ideas of Today" - in the words of its editorial note - was to "draw
attention to the ideas or fundamental spiritual factors active in every
field." It was also to show that it is ideas that are the
important factors in every field. It further proved that behind
all ideas is a governing universal Principle of being, the understanding
of which is vital in leavening the whole range of human thought and
endeavour.
It maintained that "to understand these ideas in their spiritual Science
helps to accelerate their influence in the entire range of human thought
and endeavour. "
The interpretation of these Bible stories owes its origin to a study of
"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and
to the work of John W. Doorly who used this "Key to the
Scriptures" to unlock the spiritual Science of the Bible, lecturing and
writing extensively on his findings.
Because of the universal motive behind "Ideas of Today" the endeavour
was to write these articles in a terminology that might be
understood by any honest spiritual seeker who loves the Bible
and is prepared to approach it in a new and living way.
The Bible is the Book of Life; the spiritual facts it illustrates are
basic to all mankind, but ultimately only a pure and spiritually
scientific sense can discern them and experience their living
reality, no matter in what language they are couched. |
