Wonderful inspiring articles and other statements written by Mary Baker Eddy are contained in what is known as the "Red Book" — Essays and Other Footprints compiled by Richard Oakes. This book, suppressed by the Mother Church for years, contains valuable unpublished information preserved by the Carpenter Foundation. This information was originally given to the Mother Church with the express condition that they make it available to the field. This the church never honored, and the public has, until recently been deprived of wonderful insights into the life, work and mission of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. Upon receipt of this valuable information the Mother Church locked it in the archives.

Today much of this same information originally preserved by the Carpenters is contained in this book and its brother, the "Blue Book"--Divinity Course and General Collectanea compiled by Richard Oakes. How grateful we can be to the Carpenter Foundation for originally preserving this information. (Gilbert Carpenter Sr., CSB was a secretary of Mrs. Eddy's at one time.)
